The speaker for the workshop was Mr. Dhruv Mathur, Senior Video Editor at Reskill. The event was successful with more than 60+ participants eager to learn from an industry professional about the intricate art of video editing and trailer production. The workshop started with the role of a trailer editor, its technical skills, and about mastering the art of storytelling in a compact format. The speaker highlighted how trailers are pivotal in the entertainment industry, serving as the key tool for grabbing the audience's attention and creating anticipation.
In the hands-on session, the students experienced how to edit trailers using Netflix’s exclusive templates, a unique opportunity provided through collaboration with Netflix and FICCI. The speaker demonstrated how to work with raw footage, create compelling sequences, and apply editing techniques that capture the essence of the narrative within a short time frame. The students were also introduced to advanced techniques, such as pacing, visual effects, sound design, and the art of synching music with visuals to heighten emotional impact. Students were tasked with creating their own trailers based on the templates provided by Netflix. This hands-on experience was invaluable, allowing students to work in a collaborative environment while receiving expert guidance from Mr. Mathur on editing techniques, creative decision-making, and the importance of editing as a tool to tell a story effectively. The event was not just a learning experience, but also an interactive one, as students were encouraged to ask questions and discuss the finer aspects of trailer-making.
