Staff Development Program on "Office Automation and Digital Productivity Tools"

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT), New Delhi, successfully organized a six-day Staff Development Program (SDP) on "Office Automation and Digital Productivity Tools" from 27 July to 01 August 2026. Conducted in offline mode from Day 1 to Day 5 and online on Day 6, the programme was specifically designed for the non-teaching staff to strengthen their digital competencies and equip them with modern office automation skills. The program witnessed 34 registrations from both technical and non-technical staff members from various departments of the institute. The SDP aimed to promote technology-enabled administrative practices, improve workplace efficiency, and foster a collaborative digital work environment within the institute.

The programme commenced with an inaugural session, followed by a series of expert-led lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops conducted by distinguished academicians and professionals from reputed institutions, including Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, MAIT, and BPIT. The first day of the programme was taken by Ms. Rupali Ahuja, Assistant Professor from Maitreyi College, University of Delhi focussed on Google Workspace covering Google Drive and Google Docs. Dr. Veena Ghuriani, Associate Professor, Maitreyi College, University of Delhi delivered an engaging and enlightening session on the second day of the SDP focussing on Data Management through Google Forms and Google Sheets. She also discussed use of digital tools for event management through Google Calender.

Participants learned to create and manage cloud-based documents, collect and analyse data using digital forms and spreadsheets, and efficiently schedule institutional events using collaborative tools. These sessions highlighted the importance of real-time collaboration, secure document sharing, and cloud storage in modern office environments.

The subsequent sessions on third day of the SDP were delivered by Dr. Ruchi Goel, Assistant Professor, CSE and Dr. Bhoomi Gupta, Head of the Department, CSE introduced the participants to the advanced features of Microsoft Office 365, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Mail Merge. Practical demonstrations enabled participants to create professional documents, analyse administrative data, automate repetitive tasks, and prepare impactful presentations. The integration of these tools into everyday office work was demonstrated through real-life examples and interactive exercises. A major highlight of the programme was the dedicated sessions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and office automation. Participants explored the capabilities of Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and AI-assisted features in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These sessions were delivered by Ms. Priyanka Singla, Assistant Professor, BPIT showcased how AI can simplify report generation, email drafting, document summarisation, and routine administrative tasks, thereby enhancing productivity and decision-making. Additionally, hands-on training on Adobe Acrobat, PDF management, and digital signatures through different PDF management tools like PDFgear equipped participants with essential skills for paperless documentation and secure digital workflows. These interactive sessions were taken by Prof. Dr. Sachin Gupta, Dean R&I and Ms. Kajol Dahiya, Assistant Professor, CSE.

The final online session included an assessment quiz, participant feedback, an open discussion, and the valedictory ceremony. The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with participants appreciating the practical orientation, interactive methodology, and relevance of the programme to their professional responsibilities. Many participants expressed confidence in implementing the newly learned tools to streamline administrative processes and improve workplace collaboration.

The learning outcome of this Staff Development Program was efficient digital document management, automated workflow and data handling, collaborative documentation and AI-enabled administrative productivity. With this the Department of Computer Science and Engineering reinforced MAIT's commitment to continuous professional development and digital transformation. The programme not only enhanced the technical capabilities of the participants but also encouraged the adoption of efficient, paperless, and technology-driven administrative practices, contributing to the institute's vision of academic and operational excellence. This event would not have been possible without the constant encouragement and support of Prof. (Dr.) Vikram Bali, Director, MAIT, Prof. (Dr.) Satvir Deswal (Dean Academics, MAIT), Prof. (Dr.) Sachin Gupta (Dean, R&I MAIT) and our esteemed Head of the Department, Dr. Bhoomi Gupta. who guided the conveners Ms. Chesta Agarwal and Ms. Kajol Dahiya in making this event a grand success.
