Event Overview: 

“Open source conclave” was a thought-provoking and entertaining event that the GDSC MAIT hosted on November 30, 2023. The workshop aimed to empower students to embark on their open-source journey as well as focused on providing a roadmap for future opportunities. The event strived to demystify the world of open source and equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute meaningfully to open-source projects. 

Highlights of the event: 

  • Prominent Speaker: Our event featured a distinguished speaker in the form of Amneesh Singh, a successful GSoC participant .His presence and expertise greatly enriched the event, offering attendees valuable insights into the latest developments in the industry. 
  • Mentor Insights: Two seasoned mentors from GDSC were present, readily sharing their experiences and guiding the audience on the path of successful open source contributions 
  • Insightful Workshop on GitHub: The audience was provided practical insights into effective open source collaborations through a hands-on experience. 
  • Smooth Execution: The GDSC members demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism. They executed their assigned tasks with precision, ensuring the event ran smoothly from start to finish.

Event speakers 

The speakers' enthusiasm and passion kept the audience on the edge of their seats the entire time. They addressed the audience's questions, offered advice, and discussed their own experiences. 

1) Paramhans Singh: 

The github global campus expert gave the audience an overview of git and the open source community as well as an outlook for the future. He discussed becoming involved with open source and several options, like GSoC, for doing so. 

2) Tanay Vaswani: 

Tanay, an open source mentor at GDSC, expanded on earlier knowledge by giving a hands on experience on git and opensource. The practical knowledge given made the concepts easily understood by all. 

3) Amneesh Singh: 

As a seasoned GSoC veteran, he was the ideal person to lead the group by imparting practical advice and insights from his extensive expertise. He answered all questions that came up. 

Event Timeline 

The workshop began with an insightful introduction to the significance of open source in the tech community, shedding light on its key principles and the broader ecosystem. Participants then delved into the essentials of Git, acquiring hands-on experience with basic commands for repository management. The workshop seamlessly transitioned into the intricacies of collaborative development, exploring concepts like branching, merging, and conflict resolution in Git. GitHub, a pivotal platform for open-source collaboration, was introduced, along with an exploration of repositories, issues, and pull requests. This structured approach ensured that participants, regardless of their initial familiarity, left the workshop equipped with practical skills and a solid foundation for engaging in open-source development.

The GDSC team made sure that all required arrangements were made in advance and that they were ready for any unforeseen challenges. Thanks to their unwavering commitment and professionalism, the event's execution can only be defined as excellent. The team’s ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges while maintaining the highest standards of performance was truly commendable. This level of teamwork and dedication significantly contributed to the overall success of the event, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees. 

The smooth execution of the event owes its success to the tireless efforts of the team members, who showcased not only their skills but also their passion for making the event an unforgettable experience. Their professionalism and precision were the cornerstone of this achievement. 

Attendees actively engaged with the material through interactive discussions, Q&A sessions, and hands-on exercises. The workshop facilitated a dynamic learning environment, ensuring that even beginners could grasp the fundamentals of open-source development and version control.
