HackWithMAIT 2020
The pandemic has unconditionally changed the world as one knew it. Consequentially, it has propelled institutions to employ innovative ways to foster the spirit of learning and growth. In one such incident, TechCom, the official technical society of the Computer Science and Engineering department, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of technology in association with IEEE, MAIT, successfully organized Hack-with-MAIT, a 24-hour virtual hackathon on 4-5th December, 2020, under the effective guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma, Director, MAIT.
The event commenced by an inaugural ceremony consisting of the lighting of lamp as a harbinger of knowledge and enlightenment. Following it was an address by Prof. (Dr.) Neelam Sharma, Director, MAIT who encouraged and steered participants towards a spirited display of skill and creativity later in the day. She also emphasized the importance of making the most out of digital learning and the need to upskill to create a positive impact on the world and how hackathons play a crucial role in it.
The address was succeeded by an invited talk by Ankita Mishra, India Community Manager, Progate, who further commented on the need for superior approaches to real time challenges and the role of an able youth. Finally, it was time for the actual competition.
Contributing to Hack-with-MAIT’s aim to revolutionize leaning were over 297 students and submitted by them were 75 different ideas to combat the complexities we face in the fields of education, healthcare, security and surveillance, agriculture, pollution and smart cities. The teams were then assigned the gigantic task of translating their ideas into a project in mere 24 hours, a task as seen on the following day was accomplished with proficiency.
Total 60 teams were shortlisted by esteemed judges.
All qualified teams of Phase-1 were given 24 hours for implementation of their innovative idea after the event formal inauguration.
The criteria for Phase-2 teams shortlisting was 5 mins video submitted by Phase-1 shortlisted teams on YouTube.
The participants were welcomed back the next day for the final judgement of their hard work. But first, Mohit Uniyal, Instructor and Product Engineer, Coding Blocks expanded the fervour of the gathering with his insightful talk pertaining to education and the software industry. Then, the teams exhibited their projects and presentations, each vying to present robust and realizable mechanisms and win lucrative prizes. The judges prodded for more while imparting their knowledge as each presentation went by, consciously grooming the audience towards a greater understanding.
Finally, the two-day affair reached its conclusion by a prize distribution ceremony and an address by the architect of this event, Prof. Namita Gupta, Head of Department, CSE, MAIT and Dr. N.K. Garg, Founder Chairman, MATES. A vote of Thanks by Ms. Kavita Saxena, Faculty Co-ordinator, TechCOM technical society, MAIT adjourned the congregation.
